Thank you for your use of MALCOM products.
As the lead-free soldering has been prevailing in recent years, the working environments of reflow furnaces have become changed noticeably such as a high solder melting temperature and a high temperature rapid heating type in the thermal transfer system, for example. As a result, we have received many inquiries about the heat resistance and temperature accuracy of our products.
Now, we will inform you of this problem. We have conventionally informed of these circumstances by means of home pages, catalogues, etc. However, we will inform you of this problem together with test results again.
Since the peak temperature is low and the thermal transfer system is slow (air velocity 2m/s, for example) in conventional reflow furnaces, the measuring temperature error is small and no trouble has occurred about this problem. However, the working environment has changed and many customers demand the temperature accuracy at sites where lead-free solder is used.
As a result of repeating the tests in our company under these circumstances, it has been revealed that the rapid heating at high temperature may affect the measuring temperature error. Under the high temperature & rapid heating type temperature profile condition using our static reflow furnace (RDT-250C), for example, a temperature error of max. about -4℃ was confirmed as compared with conventional products. The wind velocity is set to be higher than 3m/s as a measuring condition on the assumption of using recent lead-free soldering.
This error has been elucidated to have been caused by an error due to the internal temperature correction circuit, a temperature drift of electric circuits, and a temperature difference between connectors.
Accordingly, we will offer our heat-resisting case for high temperature and reflow checker for high temperature for the purpose of ensuring a stable and highly precise use as future remedial measures. For conventional products, no problem will arise under the conventional environments so long as the operation methods are observed.
However, a measuring error is presumable to increase in case of the reflow checker for far infrared rays, the reflow furnace using lead-free solder, or when a customer changes the heating time and method. You are, therefore, requested to use our heat-resisting case for high temperature use in any case.
